About Me/Quien Soy

My initial experiences as an interpreter came in the Chicago law courts where I did my best to remain neutral/invisible while linguistically striving to ensure that immigrant factory workers received due compensation after losing a hand, foot, eye, etc. in the  scramble for a slightly stale piece of the American Pie. Around that  time I was beginning a parallel career as a professional musician and, quick to note the benefits of an additional source of freelance income, began to ply both these trades simultaneously. 

Happily, my musical experiences have been wide-ranging, both artistically and geographically, and my work as a translator/interpreter has blossomed into much more than a sideline. I find both worlds challenging and fulfilling and feel lucky to have a foot in each.

The “Sound Design” page has links to music I've created for a variety of  film/television/dance/theater projects, with my current band Xumapaz and even some blasts from my musical past.

Mis primeras experiencias como intérprete fueron en las cortes de Chicago, donde intenté mantenerme neutral/invisible mientras luchaba linguísticamente para asegurar que los humildes obreros venidos de Centroamérica en busca de su pedacito del ya mohoso "Pastel Americano" recibieran su debida compensación luego de perder una mano, un pie, un ojo, etc. en una fábrica norteamericana. En esta misma época empecé a trabajar como música profesional y, al reconocer muy pronto las ventajas de una doble fuente de ingresos, comencé a ejercer ambas profesiones al tiempo.

Felizmente, mis experiencias musicales han sido amplias, tanto artística como geográficamente, y mi trabajo como traductora/intérprete floreció tanto que ya no es simplemente otra fuente de ingresos. Ambos universos me apasionan y me estimulan y me siento afortunada de tener un pie en cada uno de ellos.

La página “Música” contiene enlaces para escuchar muestras de mi trabajo para proyectos de cine, televisión, danza y teatro, con mi banda Xumapaz y hasta unas joyitas sacadas del baúl de los recuerdos.
